Tutti Mangia

RT: Hello and welcome to CorkRules!

A podcast where, in each episode, we will review a wine list from your favorite restaurants. I’m your host Robert Tas along with Grace Hood, wine educator and certified sommelier. Hello Grace, it’s great to have you!

GH: Happy to be here as always Robert!

RT: Before we jump in, let’s talk about CorkRules. We created CorkRules to demystify wine lists because we know from experience, that sometimes when we get that list handed to us, well… it can be intimidating, and even a little daunting.

Our aim is to help prepare you to navigate that list, find those hidden gems, or value wines or that special bottle that will take your dining experience over the top.

RT: So, sit back and listen as we review your favorite wine list. What spot are we reviewing today, Grace?

GH: Well Robert today we are chatting about Tutti Mangia which is a little outside of LA in the suburb of Claremont. But hey Wine Spectator gave it an award then you know it’s worth the trek!

RT: Awesome! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts

GH: So, it’s a super approachable list. Only two pages. Keeping it easy b/c sometimes less is indeed more

RT: hahah I totally get that. Are we starting with bubbly as always?

GH: You know me too well Robert! They only have a few options for sparkling, and I would personally go with the prosecco rose from Jeio vineyards.

RT: Loco for prosecco. Love it! How are they looking the whites?

GH: They’ve got a really international mix! They have a really interesting Chenin blanc viognier blend which I am curious about. This vermentino caught my eye as well, and of course, it wouldn’t be a California wine list without Chardonnay. If you wanted something lighter you could go with the Acaia vineyard, or if you wanted that classic oaky buttery style, then they have Rombauer which is THE Califórnia Chardonnay.

RT: Great options. Definitely something for everyone. Now how are they looking for reds?

GH: If you're feeling pinot noir, like I always am, I would try the 2019 from the Summerland vineyard out of the central coast.  Or if you want as easy drinking red, they have a 2019 Montepulciano which is always a crowd pleaser or my favorite Napa merlot producer, Keenan

RT: Love that. What do they have for bigger more full-bodied reds?

GH: They’ve got a 2017 Super Tuscan, or a 2017 Grgich Hills Cabernet. Either of those would def please the palate of a bold tannic red wine fan.

RT: They sure would. Grace, thank you so much for helping us navigate the wine list at Tutti Mangia.  To our audience, thank you all for joining us here on CorkRules.  If you would like us to review one of your favorite restaurants, please send us email to: Info@CorkRules.Com or visit our web website where we have a request form available and we will do our best to get it in the queue as quickly as possible.
